Children in Yeovil Hospital’s paediatric ward will be cruising the corridors in style thanks to a donation from the Trust’s League of Friends and the local Audi dealership.
The ride-on cars have been donated to help reduce anxiety for the younger patients on their journey from the ward to the operating theatre, making the experience more relaxed for both patients and parents.
Sister of Yeovil Hospital’s Anaesthetics and Recovery Team, Natalie Hodges said: “Going to theatres can be a scary time for children and parents. A children’s buggy is a great distraction therapy tool, to make the journey from ward 10 to the anaesthetic room more enjoyable.”
Chairman of the League of Friends Anne Bennet said: “By donating these cars, additionally supported by a charitable donation from Yeovil Audi, we have given younger patients the chance to have a better experience in what is sure to be a worrying situation for them.”
Hospital corridors can often be busy with staff, patients and visitors and the interactive cars give children the opportunity to focus on having fun as staff help them make their way across the site to receive important surgery.
Yeovil Audi collaborated with the League of Friends enabling them to provide two cars, meaning more patients will have the opportunity to take one of the bright red toys for a spin.
Head of Business at Yeovil Audi, Dylan Fennell said: “I was approached by the League of Friends in the lead up to Christmas asking if Yeovil Audi would be willing to make a donation of Audi ride on cars to Yeovil Children’s Hospital.”
“At a time of year when it is easy to get caught up in festive celebrations I was pleased to be able to support League of Friends of Yeovil Hospital and give something for those children and their families who are sadly spending Christmas away from their homes.
“From all at Yeovil Audi I’d like to wish the children, families and staff at Yeovil Children’s Hospital a very Merry Christmas.”
