Yeovil Hospital’s endoscopy team are celebrating after receiving their Joint Advisory Group accreditation on gastrointestinal endoscopy (JAG) accreditation.
The highly sort after JAG accreditation is awarded by the Royal College of Physicians to endoscopy services that demonstrate and deliver a high standard of patient-centred care and judged in accordance with national policy.
The team at JAG look at four core components that endoscopy units strive to achieve, clinical quality, the quality of patient experience, the workforce and how the team performs as a unit, and how upto-date the team’s training is to ensure a safe and appropriate endoscopy service.
Only 123 endoscopy units throughout the UK have been awarded this accreditation, Yeovil Hospital’s endoscopy unit being one of them. However, this is not the first time the unit has received the JAG accreditation as the unit has maintained this recognition for the last 15 years, providing valuable evidence supporting their application year after year. Every four years an visit is arranged to rate the services and once again the unit excelled and passed with flying colours.
Clinical Manager and Matron of Endoscopy Kathryn Royle said: “Making sure we maintain our certification has been a team effort, especially as the last year has been particularly challenging. We had to adapt to a new normal and make sure we still had our patients’ best interests at the forefront of everything we did. Nevertheless, the team pulled together we are over the moon to be granted the JAG accreditation once again. The team works tirelessly to do their best for our patients and achieving this recognition shows this.”
The endoscopy unit at Yeovil hospital sees on average 7,000 patients a year, from a range of different departments to preform endoscopes and look at the gastrointestinal tract.the whole hospital is especially proud of the department’s achievement.
Kathryn added: “The Jag accreditation framework aims to inspire confidence within the community and I can proudly say once again we can reassure our community and patients that they have and are receiving the best quality of care in a safe and clean environment right on their doorstep.”
