Yeovil Hospital is delighted to share our Trust received the highest honour of ‘Outstanding’ from the Yeovil In Bloom judges.

Back in July we had the pleasure of giving the judges a tour of the beautiful hospital grounds cultivated by our green fingered Senior Gardener Adrian Golding.

Senior Gardener Adrian said: “I am over the moon that the Trust’s gardens has been awarded a level 5 outstanding rating. The gardens were a pleasure to create and it makes a huge difference to our patients, as well as staff.”

The judges gave a special mention to both the design and abundance of plant life within the dementia garden. The garden was built in 2016 with the funds won from the National Lottery People in 2015.

The judges remarked how the dementia garden is a “lovely sanctuary to visit” and a place where patients get to be “part of a world away from the wards”. The garden is a safe, fully enclosed environment where our patients and carers can enjoy a calming area to relieve stress, improve mental wellbeing and remind patients of life outside hospital for those with longer stays.

The garden has increasingly been a key part of the Trust activities for patient centred enrichment including art, crafts and music. Recently our patients enjoyed the talents of the choir from Preston Secondary School, who came and sang for both our staff and patients.

Deputy Chief Nurse Mark Robinson added: “It’s wonderful to have the fantastic work of Adrian and the team recognised. It’s a small but well-cared for space that is full of life, creating a perfect escape.”
