Yeovil Hospital is at the frontline of providing a new type of service for those that are significantly impacted by a long-term health conditions.
The new Health and Wellbeing Hub, located within the hospital reception area, is a safe, welcoming environment for any one regardless of age or situation, dealing with long-term conditions or ongoing treatments.
Macmillan Wellbeing Lead Lauren Hunter, whose role is funded by national charity Macmillan Cancer Support, will be available throughout the week to offer a friendly face, advice, and signpost those needing extra guidance to the right support.
Lauren said: “I am very excited I have been given this opportunity to provide this essential service to our patients and I am hoping people will go away from the Hub feeling more confident with the material and assistance they have received, making a difference to their lives.”
Macmillan Partnership Manager Wendi Abraham said “Macmillan is proud to be working in partnership with Yeovil Hospital to co-create the new Wellbeing Hub. At Macmillan, we know how important it is for people living with cancer to get support as early as possible in their treatment. The Wellbeing Hub will do just that, it will be a calm and welcoming place where you can drop in for advice, ask a question and get support whether you are affected by cancer or any other long-term illness. I’m thrilled to see the Hub open and ready to support patients.”
Building work started in March to create the Hub, just inside the hospital’s main entrance for easy access. Along with open plan seating, there is a quiet room for sensitive conversations, as well as there being leaflets available, with guidance and initiatives on offer locally and nationally.
The Health and Wellbeing Hub is a vital tool to further the Yeovil Hospital ethos of exceptional care for all patients. Once the hub is fully operational (coinciding with government guidance), the Wellbeing team hope they can add to the support already available from clinical staff at Yeovil Hospital for those living with, or supporting those living with, a range of long term conditions.
