What is the multi-disciplinary team?

The multi-disciplinary team (MDT) consists of doctors and nurses with specialist training and experience in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer.

The team consists of dermatology consultants, consultant histopathologist, dermatology nurse specialists, an MDT co-ordinator and a plastic surgeon.

MDT meetings

The MDT meets weekly to discuss individual patients and their treatment.

Patients may be discussed by the MDT at any point in their skin cancer pathway; for example:

  • After having a biopsy
  • After having a CT scan
  • After completing a course of treatment
  • If they develop new symptoms

Most complicated cases are referred to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, to be discussed at the Specialist MDT (SSMDT).

MDT decisions

Once the treatment plan is agreed by the MDT, an appointment is made for the patient to discuss this.

Access to the skin cancer MDT

If you need to contact a member of the MDT to discuss your treatment or you require further information about any aspect of your diagnosis or care, contact your key worker/specialist nurse.

Treatment at other hospitals

Some of the Surgeries will be carried out at Exeter, Royal Devon and Exeter NHS trust. Radiotherapy can be carried out at Bristol or Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

The oncology service is assured by Musgrove Park Hospital and Bristol initially, then we can transfer your care to Yeovil Hospital’s Macmillan Unit.

Your key worker at Yeovil Hospital will be able to liaise with the surgical and oncology services on your behalf.
