In March 2019, Yeovil Hospital Charity launched the Breast Cancer Unit Appeal, to raise two million pounds to build a dedicated Breast Cancer Unit at Yeovil Hospital.
The Breast Cancer Unit Appeal has now been live for more than a year and has raised an incredible £1.6m. Traditional fundraising has had to pause due to COVID-19 and sadly, many events have had to be cancelled. However, even with the pandemic, members of our community have still found new ways to raise funds for the Unit.
Below are just some of our amazing Lockdown Heroes that found incredible ways to raise money.
Euan Stafford
Ten-year-old Euan challenged himself to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Unit by running the equivalent of three full marathons. Euan finished his last run on Thursday 6 August and has raised a staggering £1,855.

Daisy Reid
Throughout the whole pandemic, we have had some amazing support from many wonderful people donating the sales of their homemade face masks.
One individual who stood out was Daisy Reid, who wanted to keep herself busy during lockdown and help raise money. She made all the masks by hand and raised an astonishing £1,000 for the Breast Cancer Unit Appeal.

George Wall and Jack Wall
By challenging themselves to cycle 200 miles each, Father and son duo, George and Jack Wall have raised more than £2,000 for the Breast Cancer Unit Appeal.
George challenged himself to ride 200 miles in 24 hours on Sunday 16 August and his son Jack worked hard to ride 200 miles over the summer holidays. Working together, both father and son completed their goals and donated an incredible amount.

Jane Tennuci
Like many fundraising events the Prudential Ride London was cancelled, but Jane Tennuci took on the ride virtually and rode 100 miles around Somerset instead, raising a fantastic £1,000 for the appeal.

This is just a small selection of the many inspiring individuals who have raised funds for the Breast Cancer Unit Appeal since the start of the pandemic. There have been many others and we are grateful to each and every one.
Head of fundraising James Kirton said: “A massive thank you to all of those individuals who have been so generous with their time and their money, together you have collectively raised £171,000 during the first lockdown period. We as a Trust have been overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received and how much effort our community has gone to. We couldn’t have done it without you.
“We still have £400,000 to raise, so if you have a fundraising idea or would like to donate, please get in touch with our fundraising team on Fundraising@YDH.NHS.UK”
