You have now had your pre-assessment and your surgery will be scheduled in the near future.  In order to ensure that when a date is set for your operation that it all goes ahead as planned, it is important that you take care of your limbs, as any breaks in the skin, no matter how minor, may result in your surgery being cancelled.

Therefore it is essential that you take care of the limb that is to be operated on.  If prior to your surgery, you should experience any of the following please contact your surgeon’s secretary via hospital switchboard (01935 475122) so that if necessary an urgent appointment can be made for you to see one of the orthopaedic doctors.

  • Infected/open eczema
  • Flare up of psoriasis
  • Insect bites
  • Scratches
  • Cuts
  • Scabs
  • Blisters
  • Infected fingers or toes
  • Tinea Pedis (Athletes Foot)

We recommend that prior to your surgery, if possible, that you refrain from gardening as this is a common cause of many of the above.

We also advise you not to shave or wax your legs within a week of your operation, to avoid minor cuts, as this will cause a cancellation.
