Yeovil District Hospital and Somerset FT are beginning to design a new pilot service for those who experience post-menopausal bleeding in Somerset.
Once developed the service will be used to help aid the diagnosis of endometrial cancer (a type of cancer that begins in the uterus) and help reduces diagnostic wait times.
In collaboration with Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance, the teams are working together to understand the potential of the pilot, and are asking for feedback from the public on how they would prefer to access the service when it is developed.
The survey here, is made up of 10 questions, which will help our teams understand how best the service will be received by the public. The survey is open to people over 40 years old who are due to or have gone through the menopause.
Miriam Spicer, Rapid Diagnostic Service Project Manager, explains “I am really excited at the opportunity to design a new service to support women in Somerset get the care they need. It can be a real worry to people when unexplained bleeding begins after menopause, which is why we are keen to make sure that people can access the service.”
Moving forward the team hopes the new service will aid and prompt more of the public to come forward, to be checked if they have been experiencing bleeding post menopause. It might not be cancer but catching it sooner, means it is more treatable.
