We are fundraising for a dedicated Breast Cancer Unit and we need your help. Our breast care services are currently spread around the hospital, which means that patients need to move around the hospital and undress in multiple locations. We are running an appeal to raise the £2million needed to change this and develop a dedicated unit next to our Women’s Hospital, which will allow patients to have a biopsy, a mammogram, an ultrasound and a consultation all in one place. There will also be space for difficult conversations, a dedicated waiting area away from the rest of the hospital and a meeting room for support groups and wellbeing activities. Our patients and Breast Care Staff have recorded a video which explains why the appeal is so important.
Project Update
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have exceeded our original £2 million target. However, the cost of construction materials has risen sharply and there is now a global shortage of many items, so we expect the new breast unit to cost significantly more than the £2 million we had originally planned. We will therefore continue to fundraise and raise as much as we possibly can. Construction of the new unit will begin on site in the summer and construction is expected to take 10 months.
