Yeovil Academy is a multi-professional centre providing education to all staff and professional groups. The Academy contains a full range of modern presentation facilities, a clinical skills laboratory, IT and library resources and an induction loop system which is available for those with hearing difficulties.
Many courses are available, including First Aid, Clinical Skills, Advanced Life Support, Manual Handling, NVQs, Principles of Leadership, Enhanced Recovery and more.
The academy is the hospital’s in-house education and training facility incorporating all of the functions of teaching for staff and students. We also offer a selection of training courses and events to external organisations and individuals.
The Academy maintains strong links with several higher education institutions and we aim to provide an environment that encourages and supports both practical learning and formal education.

Academy Room Hire
The Academy rooms are available for hire to external organisations. All room bookings include standard equipment in the price. This includes laptop, projector, OHP, flipchart and pens and Internet access. A TV/Video/DVD is also available.
The Academy reception is staffed within normal office hours Monday to Friday. Administration facilities including photocopying are also available, if required, at competitive rates.
Rooms can be booked for a full day, half day or by the hour and are available during evenings and at weekend as well as throughout normal office hours. A discount will be given for block bookings.

Catering
Catering is available to order through the Academy for any event, no matter how big or small. The hospital’s canteen has provided an excellent quality service to users of the Academy for many years. A set price list for refreshments and buffet-style meals is available. Special orders will be tailored to your requirements and budget on individual request.

The Academy run one-day events designed for those interested in careers in Midwifery, Nursing or Medicine as a career.
Individuals must be aged 16 or above to attend these events.
Attendance at each event costs £50, including lunch and refreshments.

Library Facilities
Staffed Hours: Monday-Friday 8am–6pm
There is 24/7 access to the library and IT suites.
Learning Resources:
Books, journals, multimedia PCs, a coin-operated colour photocopier, binding and laminating machines, a scanner, a daily newspaper and online databases are all available in the Academy Library. There is also wifi access in the library.
Books:
The Library holds a well-balanced, current and comprehensive collection of over 7,500 books for reference. Members of the general public and outside organisations may borrow items from the Library by becoming an associate member at a cost of £30.00 per annum. Access to the library as a reference facility is free of charge. The library has always been multi-disciplinary and covers a wide range of health-related literature, sociology and management at all levels. Users and tutors are consulted on book selection, and books on core lists and recommended reading lists are purchased.
Journals:
There are over 150 print journal titles in stock, with the library subscribing to approximately 50, covering many aspects of healthcare. Back copies are kept for at least ten years and some are also available electronically. Articles available electronically can be provided by the Library staff for the cost of printing. Articles may be photocopied from these journals. Photocopying is subject to the “Copyright Licensing Agency Guidelines for the NHS in England”, displayed by the photocopier.
