Yeovil Hospital opens its doors to anyone considering a career as a Midwife, at the ‘A day with Midwives’ event.
The event is open to anyone over the age of 16 who are keen to pursue a career in midwifery and will run on Saturday 12 October at Yeovil Academy, Level 4 of Yeovil District Hospital.
Sara Slide, Yeovil Hospital’s leading midwife practical educator and her team of dedicated volunteers, created the event, to help provide a clearer and well-rounded aspect of the role.
Sara said “After all these years I am still passionate about midwifery, and I want to inspire a new generation to choose a career so rewarding. Many people believe the role of a midwife is to care for cute and endearing babies; however, it entails so much more. By holding this event, I want people to see the true spirit of the job, to see all the different aspects they will be involved in, making sure it is the right pathway for them.”
The day offers the opportunity to participate in practical workshops, ask questions and find out whether midwifery is the career for you. The day also allows you to have one to one conversations with students currently training at Yeovil Hospital, offering a glimpse into studying a midwifery course and what should be expected from the process.
“The event has always been well received and has always helped those on the fence make an informative decision. Very few hospitals offer tasters session, and some of our past attendees have flown from abroad to attend, which just shows have many events like ours is appreciated and needed”.
There is a £50 charge to cover the costs of the day and lunch and refreshments will be provided. An application will need to be completed and handed in. Full details are available here or from Elaine Cox in Yeovil Academy at Elaine.cox@ydh.nhs.uk or telephone 01935 384529. The closing date for bookings is Friday 4 October 2019.
