Patients attending clinics in Yeovil Hospital’s outpatients department can look forward to collecting their prescriptions onsite from next month, thanks to the opening of a new Boots pharmacy.

The pharmacy, which is set to open on 15 February within the outpatients department on level 3, means that outpatients will no longer need to go elsewhere to collect their prescription after their appointment.

Currently, most patients receiving prescriptions after an outpatient appointment need to go to a community pharmacy offsite to have it dispensed.

This exciting new development for the hospital will make attending an outpatient appointment quicker and more convenient than ever. It also allows hospital pharmacy staff more time to focus on inpatient medicines, and to benefit from the extensive community pharmacy expertise brought by Boots UK.

After a formal tender process, Boots UK were awarded the contract to work in partnership with the existing hospital pharmacy, who will oversee the provision of the service.

Jon Standing, Chief Pharmacist at Yeovil Hospital, said of the opening: “This project is a really positive development for patients visiting our outpatient department and is a result of months of hard work. The whole outpatient area has also been completely refurbished, making the experience of visiting the department better than ever before. Boots brings a wealth of experience in community pharmacy to our trust, and we are looking forward to working together.”

The new Boots UK pharmacy will be open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm and offer a range of services in addition to dispensing prescriptions, including:

  • A dedicated outpatient-focused service, where people attending outpatient appointments can collect their prescription
  • A consultation room for confidential discussions about medicines
  • Expert advice from pharmacists on a range of healthcare matters.
  • A range of over-the-counter medicines and retail products.

Richard Bradley, Pharmacy Director at Boots UK added: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Yeovil Hospital to help offer their patients the best possible pharmacy service. We are continuously seeking opportunities to provide better healthcare solutions and this partnership not only ensures we are located where customers want and need us most, but also allows us to work together to support patient care in the local community and make a real difference to people’s health and wellbeing.”
