What is it?

Published in June 2015 by NHS England, the Standard directs and defines a specific, consistent approach to identifying, recording, flagging, sharing and meeting individuals’ information and communication support needs, where those needs relate to a disability, impairment or sensory loss.

Our obligation

By law (Section 250 of the Health & Social Care Act 2012), from 1 August 2016 all organisations that provide NHS care or publicly-funded adult social care must follow the Standard in full.

How?

At YDH we routinely collect information about a patient’s specific needs through interaction and discussion with them. However, to further develop formal implementation of AIS, we utilise the Trakcare system to gather and share this information through automatic alerts. The Trakcare training includes mention of the alert fields available to ensure they are utilised.
